Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! It is a pleasure to welcome our new and returning students.
Our maintenance, custodial, and summer crews have been working hard to prepare the classrooms and grounds for the start of school. Building floors shine like new. The fieldhouse and surrounding fence have a fresh coat of paint. New weightroom equipment and wrestling mats will be arriving soon. Safety fencing has been put in place on the ECC , Elementary, and Intermediate campuses. New teacher and student seating are expected to be in place at the High School this week. A new greenhouse has been ordered and construction will begin this fall. New flooring will be put in the Elementary Gym starting in October. Finally, new playground equipment will be going up on the Intermediate and Elementary campuses. These are just a few of the upgrades! Many of these improvements were purchased with ESSER II and ESSER III funds.
Last month we had the priveledge of welcoming 19 teachers to the district for New Teacher Orientation Hiring is one of the most important aspects of administrative work and we do everything possible to ensure that our process is thorough and thoughtful. We are consistently working on different ways to support our new staff’s transition to MPS and their growth as educators throughout the year.
August is a wonderful time for those of us involved in education because it allows us to develop new goals, build new relationships and embark upon new challenges. Our Site Improvement Plans this year highlight both academic and social and emotional learning. While improving student achievement is an important part of our mission, we know it is essential to focus on the social and emotional needs of our students as well.
One of the most important parts of my job is to be in the schools on a regular basis connecting with teachers and students. I also look forward to engaging with parents and the community in the coming year. Furthermore, I welcome the opportunity to address any specific questions or concerns that you may have. My door is always open.
Best wishes for a wonderful year!
Rhonda Hockenbury
