Dear McLoud School Patrons,
This morning at approximately 10:30am, our School Resource Officer identified a locked student vehicle on the secondary campus with an expired tag. Upon closer inspection, a holstered firearm was observed in plain view through the vehicle's window.
The McLoud Police Department was immediately notified. Officers responded promptly, the student was detained, and the vehicle was impounded. The student will be subject disciplinary action in accordance with district policy, and the McLoud Police Department is pursuing appropriate legal charges.
At this time, there is no indication that nay threat was made toward students, staff, or the school community. However, the possession of a firearm on school property is a serious offense, and we are treating it with the utmost concern.
We are committed to keeping you informed and will provide updates if additional information becomes available. Since the situation was contained quickly and safely, the school day is proceeding as normal.
Thank you for you attention and continued support.
Sincerely,
Dr. Bill Caruthers
Superintendent
