Hello parents, students and community members!
I hope you have had a wonderful summer! Our theme at MHS this year is "Don't Ever Ring the Bell." This is an idea that we want our students to see all over our school and goes along with the lessons we would like to help teach them. It is a message of don't quit, no matter the circumstances!
As we prepare for the arrival of students on Tuesday at MHS, there are several key changes that will have an impact on day-to-day operations that I want to make sure you are aware of. We will be going over these changes during the first week with students and sharing with parents as well! I sent a letter home in May with grades outlining some of these changes.
1. The district has adopted an ID policy for students. in grades 9-12. All students at MHS will have to wear an ID during the instructional day. These ID's will give students access to buildings with a swipe of their badge. This is not optional and will be strictly enforced. Safety is very important to us and this is a big step in helping to assure the safety of our students. We will be sending information home for you to review during the first week as well as reviewing this policy with students.
2. MHS is a one to one high school with all students having a Chromebook that is essential to them having success in the classroom. During the 2023-24 school year there were extra Chromebooks in all classrooms that were used as a crutch by many students. Those Chromebooks and towers have been removed and students are expected to have their Chromebook with them every day. The Chromebook should be charged and ready to go. Please encourage your student to carry their Chromebook in a bag of some sort for protection! No Chromebook typically means no way to complete the assignment for the day!
3. MHS will have two different bell schedules this year. We will have a normal , seven period schedule on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. There will be no PRIDE time on these days. On Wednesday and any Friday that we are in school, we will have a modified schedule with remediation/re-teaching time built in. On this day students will also get a longer lunch which will excite most of them! There will be more details on PRIDE coming!
4. As you have seen, many districts in the state are moving away from cell phones to some extent during instructional time. This a policy that we have had in place at the high school and will continue to enforce to the best of our ability. Cell phones are a huge distraction for students and provide very few educational benefits. Cell phones at the high school are strictly prohibited in restrooms as well. Again, I will be speaking to students this week about the details of the cell phone policy.
We are looking forward to a great year at MHS and are excited about the return of our students! If you ever have questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to me at bjennings@mcloudschools.us
Thank you!

Welcome back to MHS!

Our day starts at 7:30 a.m. when bus riders arrive, first bell to go to class is at 7:55 a.m. our day ends at 3:20 p.m. If a student does not have their ID and schedule they need to start their morning at the library!
