Supt. Spotlight

Greetings from McLoud Public Schools,

This is the second issue of the “Spotlight” and I wanted to mention and pay tribute to the old “J” Building that is currently being removed.  It was built in 1958 to be a new JH/HS for McLoud Public Schools. It is a tribute to the foresight of Supt. J.E. Walker that the building was constructed in such a way to have functionality well into the 21st Century.  During its use it served as a JH/HS, Elementary School, and an Early Childhood Center. No doubt many can remember graduating from that building, or starting school there, and many memorable instances in between.

As a result of changing compliance issues with ADA and health codes, along with the construction of the new ECC and Intermediate buildings, the building ceased use as a classroom building in 2020 and students no longer walked its halls.  I know that the school building holds a special place in many hearts throughout the McLoud School family and I wanted to pay some type of tribute to it.  Our school is donating bricks from the building to the McLoud Alumni Association and the McLoud Public School Foundation as well as the McLoud Historical Society to use as they see fit.  We have saved the bronze plaque from the building and will display it inside the McLoud Elementary School along with pictures of the building in its original condition.
