McLoud Public Schools Distance Learning Plan Information

Plan will be available on the district website Monday, April 6th

We want to first start by saying how much we miss all of our students. We are concerned about our students’ health and well-being, as well as their families. Although none of us have experienced a pandemic before, the McLoud family of educators, county and community leaders, and all other stakeholders have quickly risen to the occasion! We would like to thank everyone for your kindness and support, especially our health professionals, truck drivers, grocery store employees, first responders, local farmers, and all other essential operations personnel.

The next few weeks will not be easy. There will be mistakes, problems, and concerns along the way. However, there will be more successes, happiness, hope, fun, and purpose! We understand many of you are still working and have several children to help, financial concerns, health issues, etc.  We are here to patiently support our students and you throughout this challenging time. Please do not stress over the school work via distance learning. Frustrations are high due to our circumstances and we don’t want to increase the stress on our families. We are going to do our best to provide schoolwork to keep our students' minds moving forward. Please contact your teacher via email, if you need help. We also ask for your patience and understanding as we travel this new territory, too. Our teachers and other employees are working long hours from home while dealing with their new, but temporary, normal.

What you can expect from our teachers:

  • Students will receive projects, resources, and activities via Google Classroom Monday morning, April 6th.  If you do not have access to the internet you may contact your student’s teacher or administrator to make arrangements for work.

  • The Distance Learning Plan can be found on our district website

  • Teachers will be available to monitor and respond to emails from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm Monday - Thursday regarding questions about work.  This includes Remind 101 and Class Dojo.

  • Teachers will work to make the material accessible to every student.  Meaning they will adjust work according to student need and technology access.

What you can expect from your junior high or high school student:

  • They will need to access Google Classroom to begin.  Again, you may contact your classroom teacher if access to the internet is an issue.

  • Students should use their school email ONLY to gain access.

  • Students will need to complete all the required work for the classes they are enrolled in and submit these as directed by their teacher.

  • Students should spend some time each day either working on their projects, doing provided activities, or viewing resources. We recommend 2 hours.

  • Students should email their teachers if they have any questions.

  • Parents, be mindful of your students internet usage via their school email address.  Our network will flag inappropriate activity or usage.

What you can expect from your elementary/intermediate student:

  • Students should access the appropriate Grade-level Google Classroom on the district site.

  • Work on the assignments for each subject area in your grade level. If you would like to turn in these assignments, you may scan/take pictures of the completed subjects and turn them in on the classroom or for the elementary email them to Mr. Winters at awinters@mcloudschools.us and for the intermediate Mrs. Gilliam at cgilliam@mcloudschools.us

  • Utilize the additional resources posted by your teachers and the activity teachers.

  • Students should read 20 minutes each day.

  • Students should practice math fluency 20 minutes each day.

What to expect from your early childhood student:

  • Learning Opportunities are posted on the District Website.

  • Learning opportunities should be facilitated with an adult or caretaker.

  • Teachers will remain in contact with their students and families, as they have all year, via Remind or school email.

  • Teachers can also provide individualized lessons or activities to their class or individual students, if needed.

    • All of our staff, grade level teachers and special educators, are available to provide resources and learning opportunities for our students and families.

How can you help:

  • Assure that your student gains access to the appropriate grade-level Google Classroom on Monday, April 6th.  If unable for any reason, please email their teacher(s).

  • Ensure your student is progressing with the assigned work.
